Little Sable Camp

Little Sable Camp

Bare-back luxury and classic safari experience in Khwai at an unbeatable price

Tucked away in the wildlife-rich Khwai Private Reserve, Little Sable is a camp with charm in spades. The smaller sister to the celebrated Sable Alley, it delivers all the magic of a classic Okavango Delta safari – but with a more intimate, laid-back feel. If you're after an authentic safari experience wrapped in comfort and warm hospitality, this little camp should be high on your list.

With just eight traditional safari tents, Little Sable offers a cosy, personalised retreat in the wild. Each tent is a thoughtfully designed haven, complete with large king-sized (or twin) beds, writing desks, ensuite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks overlooking the open grasslands. It’s the kind of place where you can retreat between game drives to watch zebras or elephants wander past your room.

At the heart of the camp is a relaxed lounge and dining area, set beneath thatch and finished with a subtle mix of old-world English charm and African creativity. Wide decks lead out to a fire pit that’s the perfect spot for morning coffee or a sundowner G&T. And during the heat of the day, it’s not unusual to see wildlife passing right by as you relax with a book or binoculars in hand.

Days at Little Sable are full of variety. Game drives explore the diverse landscapes of Khwai – from shimmering wetlands to open plains – with expert guides who bring the bush to life. Guests can also experience the Delta by mokoro (dugout canoe), boat, or even on foot, discovering a different side of the ecosystem each day.

The wildlife here is superb. Elephants and buffalo roam in large numbers, while big cats like lion, leopard and cheetah are regularly seen stalking the treelines. On the floodplains, red lechwe splash through the shallows and hippos jostle for territory in deep pools. Rarer sightings are also possible – from sable and roan antelope to honey badgers, serval cats, and the elusive pangolin. And for bird lovers, the skies are alive with species like giant eagle owls, lilac-breasted rollers, and saddle-billed storks.

Little Sable manages to combine everything that makes a safari unforgettable: beautiful landscapes, exceptional wildlife, and a camp atmosphere that feels both special and familiar. It’s comfortable, stylish in a subtle way, and deeply rooted in its wild surroundings. Best of all, it offers fantastic value for such an iconic Delta experience.

Whether you’re watching elephants from your deck, swapping stories around the fire, or drifting silently through the reeds in a mokoro, Little Sable delivers the kind of soul-stirring moments that define a true African safari.
