Camp Kalahari
Understated and affordable, adventurous and funky, explore Camp Kalahari
Tucked beneath palms and acacias on Brown Hyena Island, Camp Kalahari is the charming, understated sibling of Jack’s and San Camp. With 12 Meru-style canvas tents (including family options with interconnecting bathrooms), it’s an ideal base for couples, families, and small groups looking to explore the otherworldly Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
Expect simple yet stylish comforts: four-poster beds, Moroccan rugs, alfresco ensuite bathrooms, and a communal lounge and dining area filled with colonial antiques and African character. Meals are served family-style, and a thatched swimming pool offers welcome relief during hot afternoons – just beware of the occasional elephant drop-in!
Adventures include:
Quad biking across the pans
Guided bush walks with Zu’/hoasi bushmen
Visits to a habituated meerkat colony (they may use you as a lookout!)
Opportunities to spot rare wildlife like brown hyenas, aardwolves, and bat-eared foxes, plus migrating zebra, wildebeest, and the predators that follow them.
