Safari Considerations

We're here to help you every step of the way.
Planning your once-in-a-lifetime safari adventure can feel overwhelming - but that’s where we come in. By talking through your ideas and preferences, we can take the hard work off your plate and design a seamless, unforgettable itinerary tailored just for you.
We also have access to a range of exceptional safari camps and lodges, including some hidden gems not yet featured on our website. So, if there’s a specific place you’ve got your eye on, let us know - we’ll do our best to include it and create the perfect journey to match your vision.
Locations
Different regions offer distinct experiences; for example, Southern Africa during the dry season is excellent for game viewing in places like the Greater Kruger, whilst East Africa shines with the Great Migration in the dry season. Experienced safari-goers might also explore less-visited areas like Botswana, Zimbabwe or Zambia for a more untouched wilderness.
Specific Interests
Consider timing of specific events like the Great Migration (June-October in East Africa) or gorilla trekking (June-September & December-February) in Rwanda.
Travel Style & Companions
Consider who you are travelling with and whether you prefer adventure, relaxation, or a mix, as well as your desired level of comfort.
Safari Camps & Lodges
Research and select camps or lodges with positive reviews and professionally trained guides (which all our accommodation have in abundance!). Make sure they align with your budget and comfort preferences, ensuring they are well located for your chosen activities.
Seasons
The dry season is ideal for concentrated wildlife viewing as animals gather at remaining water sources. However, experienced travellers might also appreciate the "green season" (wet season) which brings migratory birds, new-borns, fewer crowds and potentially better deals.
For First-Timers
Destinations like the Kruger National Park in South Africa or the Serengeti in Tanzania are often recommended for their high chance of spotting the Big Five and well-established tourism infrastructure.
National Parks vs. Private Game Reserves
National Parks are government-run, open to the public, and offer classic safari experiences. They’re usually more affordable but can be crowded, with strict rules like no off-road or night drives.
Private Conservancies are exclusive areas with fewer vehicles, offering off-road driving, night safaris, and walking tours. They provide a more intimate, flexible experience, often with a stronger focus on conservation - though at a higher cost.
Safari Duration
Aim for 8-14 days to allow for deeper exploration and a more varied experience with ample game spotting opportunities. We recommend travelling between areas and enjoying a variety of lodges to immerse yourself as much as possible.
