Saruni Rhino

Delve into the fascinating Samburu culture and the art of survival at Saruni Rhino Camp, a hidden authentic safari gem in Kenya.

Set high above a dry riverbed, Saruni Rhino safari camp blends seamlessly into its wild surroundings. Shaded by swaying doum palms and thorny acacias, the camp offers a front-row seat to one of nature’s great performances. Drawn by the promise of water and vital minerals, animals gather at the riverbed throughout the day, making this an ideal spot to relax and witness the rhythms of the African bush.

This riverbed isn’t just a hub of wildlife activity - it’s the heart of some of Saruni Rhino’s most unforgettable moments. From starlit bush dinners and guided walking safaris to fascinating tracking lessons with local Samburu guides, each experience is deeply rooted in the landscape. These skilled trackers read the sand like a storybook, identifying endangered species from subtle clues that would go unnoticed by the untrained eye.

The highlight for many guests is rhino tracking on foot - a rare and exhilarating adventure that’s only possible thanks to the expert knowledge and instincts of the guides. Located within the Sera Wildlife Conservancy, Saruni Rhino plays a vital role in a pioneering conservation effort. Here, rhinos are protected in their natural habitat, and local communities benefit from sustainable tourism and employment, creating a powerful model for coexistence.

The camp itself is made up of just four bandas - charming, rustic stone cottages with thatched roofs and canvas zip-down doors and windows. Each banda features a flushing toilet, hot and cold running water, and a natural stone shower. Thoughtfully spaced along the riverbed for privacy, the bandas are also close enough to be booked exclusively by small groups.

After a game drive through the starkly beautiful Samburu landscape, there’s no better way to cool off than in the comfort of your banda. With sand underfoot and palm fronds overhead, you might even feel like you’ve stumbled onto a remote tropical beach - despite being miles from the sea. At Saruni Rhino, the luxury lies not just in comfort, but in connection - with nature, with community, and with a slower, deeper way of life. It's the kind of place that invites you to unwind, tune in, and truly feel part of the wild.
