Basecamp Wilderness

A classic safari camp reimagined whilst retaining a truly authentic Kenya

Kenya is where safari began, and Basecamp Wilderness revives the romance and authenticity of those early adventures with effortless style. Thoughtfully refurbished, this intimate camp pays homage to the golden age of safari, while embracing a modern ethos of sustainability and responsible tourism.

Set within the pristine Naboisho Conservancy, one of the Masai Mara’s most celebrated private wildlife areas, Basecamp Wilderness offers a rare blend of exclusivity, seclusion, and untamed beauty. It’s a place where the pace of modern life slows, and the timeless rhythm of the bush takes over.

A Return to Safari’s Roots:

Of all the Basecamp locations, Wilderness most deeply reflects the spirit of Kenya’s pioneering explorers. With just seven tents carefully positioned along the Saddle Valley rim, guests enjoy unparalleled views and complete privacy - especially at dawn, when the first light sweeps across the savannah and the day’s drama quietly begins to unfold.

Tents are simple yet deeply comfortable, each featuring plush double beds with crisp white linens, a separate bathroom unit with bio-flush toilets, and the quintessential safari experience: a bucket shower, heated on request. Each tent also boasts a private seating area that looks out over the vast landscapes of the Masai Mara.

Timeless Hospitality in a Modern Conservation Setting:

Basecamp Wilderness is as much about ambience and atmosphere as it is about wildlife. Meals are served al fresco - beneath shady trees by day, and under a canopy of stars by night. The elegant dining tent channels a vintage safari aesthetic, while the food and service set a new benchmark for tented camps in Kenya. Comfortable leather chairs, lantern light, and wholesome cuisine create moments of quiet luxury that feel rooted in place and time.

Beyond the comforts of camp, guests have the freedom to explore Naboisho Conservancy on foot or by vehicle, with experienced Maasai guides who know every trail, track, and tale of the land. The conservancy model ensures fewer vehicles, more exclusive wildlife encounters, and a tangible contribution to community-driven conservation. A Safari for Every Generation

Whether you're a solo traveller, a couple, or on a multi-generational family journey, Basecamp Wilderness offers an experience that feels both deeply personal and profoundly connected to nature. This is safari as it was meant to be—unfiltered, unforgettable, and full of soul.
